Top of the Chain

I saw a video that said the higher purpose of all things is to serve that which is greater. Minerals provide nourishment to plants. Plants nourish animals. Animals nourish mankind. But what do we serve? We serve ourselves.

I see a mistake of levels in this logic. Minerals don't consciously serve plants. Effectively they do, but it isn't a choice. Plants don't serve animals by choice, and animals don't serve humans by choice. The service is by position not by choice. Humanity serving itself is a kind of choice. At that same level though, animals are just as self centered as humans, and plants are also. At that level we're all directed toward self preservation. We want to survive as comfortably as possible for as long as possible. So saying mankind serves itself isn't a fair comparison. At a higher level the human race very probably does serve a higher purpose. The fact that humans can be selfish and self centered doesn't take away from the higher purpose.

Algorithm of Attachment, v1.0

Attention drifts.
Attention is drawn to something. (Like a drifting asteroid being caught in the gravity field of a planet.)
Being drawn in leads to a focus of attention.
Focus of attention leads to perception.
Perception of, or belief in, lack or unfulfilled need leads to desire.
Desire leads to intent.
Intent leads to action.
Action leads to either failure or accomplishment.
Perception of failure begins the cycle again.
Perception of accomplishment leads to satisfaction, or sense of completeness.
Perception of completeness releases focus (releases attachment).
Attention drifts.

Forgiving Deceitful People

In the teleseminar “What is Consciousness Anyway?”, Dr. Hawkins said we need to become more loving to be able to move up to level 500. Then there was discussion about how can one be loving and develop in consciousness, while being stressed by deceitful people. A particular political figure was mentioned.

I think the answer is in forgiveness. Not forgiveness in the sense of someone has done something wrong and should be punished, and I forgive him for his wrong action (and aren't I wonderful?). There's a deeper level of forgiveness. If we can accept that all people have a

The nature of psychic ability

There was a show on television last year about a psychic who went around with a camera crew to various places and picked people at random. She told them that she's a psychic, and asked if they'd like to have a reading. I found the show very fascinating. It got me thinking about the nature of psychic ability.

Light and Darkness

When I was 20 or so (I’m 52 now), I used to be very interested in prophesy and predictions. I was especially interested physical earth changes and the effects they would have on people and societies. As time passed, and I read things, and experienced things, and thought things over, I reached a point when I had to ask myself why I was so interested in the doomedness of humanity. Through a period of introspection I realized my interest had nothing to do with the truth of what was or was not going to happen.

True Path

When I was young I wanted to know what my path should be. Through my passionate asking, the answer was given to me. I started off on that path, but after a number of years veered off in another direction. Has my life been wasted because I turned down another road? No. Really, life is about learning. Even on the path I’ve taken, even though it wasn’t the one that was originally intended, I’ve learned a lot. To go through an entire life and learn nothing I think, is the waste of a life. Of course I’m not talking about school learning, I’m talking about spiritual learning, the kind of learning that allows our soul, our spirit to grow in understanding and grace.

The power of a thought

One of the teachings of the church I go to is that what we hold in our mind is what we draw to us. So if we criticize others, even if it's "just" in our mind, we'll draw criticism to us one way or another. The goal is to be able to see the light, the spirit in everyone. We want to be able to see them as God does, a soul full of enormous potential. As we think upon a thing, we give it energy for manifestation. If we can see others in our mind fulfilling their potential, we give that potential in them energy.

Ripples through time?

Back in the 80's there was a time when I used to meditate regularly every day. These days it's pretty sporadic, but back then I was very consistant with it. There were several occassions when I went through periods of having increasing random (not something I was attempting to do intentionally) psychic experiences that would reach a peak, then decline in frequency. They centered around particularly powerful meditations. It was a long time ago, so I don't actually remember specifically what my meditations consisted of. But I do remember that the psychic experiences would build up over a period of a week or so, then one day there would be a particularly powerful meditation, and then in the following days the experiences would taper off. It reminded me at the time of a pebble dropping into a pond sending ripples out in all directions. It appeared to me as though the meditation was a focal point from which ripples were sent forward and backward through time. It's been a great mystery in the back of my mind ever since.
