Has anybody seen the new Francis Ford Copola film, "Youth without Youth" and would you recommend it? I saw some shorts from it and a mixed TV review. The content looks really interesting but I don't want to be disappointed by a lot of trivialized Hollywood fluff.

November 4th 2008 is a day which will figure prominently in the collective consciousness of the USA and Australia. America will of course see the end of a long, unique, historic race for the Presidency; an event which has the world on the edege of its seat and may deliver profound social change. In Australia the 4th this year falls on the first Tuesday in November, a day which looms large in the hearts and consciousness of my countrymen.

If everyone in the world was an investment banker where would you find a plumber, and could you afford to have your pipes cleared if you did? Is an economist likely to come around and service your Ford? Our politicians are stewed up about the high school dropout rate. Is education confined to school?

I've just spent a lazy hour (when I should have been working) scanning recent economic or politically related posts and think that despite differing and divergent opinions you guys (US based) are all fiercely American and hold firm to the highest principles and potentials of your country. A love of country is common to all nationalities as is a niggling distrust of anything alien. We Aussie's love our football (Aussies Rules not the strange offense/defense battle of Waterloo game), meat pies, kangaroos (although we are probably the only nation to eat the animals which adorn our national crest) and Holden cars (we even have a song about it).

I wonder how people are feeling about Sarah Palin? From this remote island it's a little easier to remain objective and absorb the convention's entertainment value - "Deadwood" meets the "West Wing" possibly.

I was clearing out some old files tonight and found this piece that somebody, somewhere along the line had sent me. I kept it because I liked it then promptly forgot about it - until tonight. It's anonymous but the author is likely a woman; a woman who has been driven to the edge and decided to "Shift" rather than implode. Obviously this shift is on a deeply personal level but the mechanics and underlying framework which support it can be applied to the broader spectrum. It seems more than a cry in the night and its passion is what touches me most. I hope you take benefit from it.
