I teach Reiki as a wisdom tradition, which is what its founder intended it to be. Usui Sensei (1865-1926) was a spiritual & meditation teacher, who also had the power to heal (a byproduct of garnering wisdom & compassion). Reiki is misunderstood only as a healing art, an aspect that comes later in Usui's teachings & developed by his students under his guidance.
As a wisdom path, Reiki engenders evolution in consciousness which leads to healing power. Its main thrust is spiritual growth and the embodiment of wisdom & compassion.
Understood this way, when Reiki is applied as 'palm healing' it leaps beyond being a mere modality. Reiki is a practice in personal mastery & from there it can reach a larger sphere of influence.
