Personal Information Options

  1. What is ShiftInAction.com's privacy policy?

    You can find our complete privacy policy here.

  2. Can I hide my Personal Profile from public view?

    Yes. To hide your profile, click my account in your admin menu at the lower left of the page
    ; then, in the content pane, click the edit tab, and then the Personal Profile subtab. Scroll down to the bottom of that page, and check the box under Profile visibility.

    Hiding your profile will make it impossible for others to find your profile by using public search engines, such as Google, increasing your privacy. Keeping your profile visible will allow anyone to Google for your Shift in Action profile, enhancing its social networking value.

  3. Can I delete my web account?

    Yes. If you wish to forgo using ShiftInAction.com but continue donating to IONS and receiving your other Shift in Action membership premiums, please contact IONS Member Services at 877-769-4667 or membership@noetic.org. Please note that deleting your account will permanently remove your profile as well as any posts that you may have made on ShiftInAction.com.

    We are happy to accomodate you in providing only those membership benefits that you would like to receive. However, if you wish to discontinue your donation and all of your benefits, please contact Member Services with notice that you would like to cancel your membership.


Membership Questions

  1. How do I get a User Name and Password?

    You create your own User Name and Password once you have activated your account. To do this, you will need the Activation Code provided to you by the Institute of Noetic Sciences when you make a monthly recurring donation of $10/month or more (or the equivalent as a yearly donation). If you qualify and have not received your Activation Code by email or post, please call Member Services at 877-769-4667 or email support@shiftinaction.com. If you have signed up as a Shift in Action Partner, you can expect to receive your Activation Code within a few days. Once you have your Activation Code email, just point your browser to http://www.shiftinaction.com/invite, enter your Activation Code in the box, and click the Submit button.

  2. Can I pay yearly rather than monthly?

    Yes! You will receive a full year of Shift in Action membership for a donation of $120 or more per year. Please note that you will receive renewal notices in the mail if you choose to donate annually. (Our philosophy is that monthly donation is more flexible for you, more efficient for us, and better for the environment.)

  3. Can I pay monthly by check?

    No; we simply do not have the staff resources to process monthly checks. We do accept checks of $120 or more for full-year Shift in Action memberships. (See question #2 above.

  4. Has IONS raised its contribution levels?

    IONS raised its basic membership contribution to $55 some years ago while retaining an income-sensitive rate of $35. This represents a more sustainable membership model, and allows us to deliver our magazine without advertising as well as serve our community in many other ways. These rates have not changed with the advent of the Shift in Action program, which has been added as an enhanced membership level.

    Previously, donors in the $100 yearly range did not receive many extra benefits, so we enhanced the offerings and shifted the contribution level from $100 per year to $10 per month (or $120 annual equivalent) to reflect the upgrade. We feel this benefits package better represents the intention and direction of IONS, empowering our members with access to the best in consciousness resources.

  5. Will I still receive Shift magazine if I become a partner?

    Yes; all members of IONS, including Shift in Action Partners, receive Shift magazine quarterly.

  6. What is the difference between Noetic.org and ShiftInAction.com?

    Noetic.org is now specifically dedicated to IONS research, events, and administrative functions, while ShiftInAction.com is dedicated to community activities and multimedia.

  7. What the benefits of the Shift in Action program? How does it compare to the previous membership program?

    Members of the new Shift in Action Partners program gain access to
    • four new media offerings on the web every week
    • one LIVE teleseminar each week
    • quarterly CDs
    • a yearly book
    • online resources to empower groups, events, and community.
    By comparison, members at the $100 level in the old program received
    • invitations to members-only events
    • two newsletters
    • two educational CDs/DVDs.
    This is in addition to the Basic member benefits, such as Shift magazine, which all IONS members receive.

  8. Why do you want people to do monthly donation?

    Many members find recurring monthly gift to be hassle-free, because you no longer receive renewal notices in the mail, as well as more flexible, since you can cancel any time. This method is also better for IONS as an organization, since it provides a steady stream of financial support while streamlining our administrative processes. It is also better for the planet, since it allows us to cut down on paper use by eliminating renewal notices.

  9. When do I get my CDs and book?

    The CDs are mailed out every three months, and you will receive every CD that is released during the period in which you are a Shift in Action Partner in good standing. The CDs’ contents have included highlights from our International Conferences, the weekly Shift in Action teleseminars, and exclusive interviews with leaders in science and spirit such as Bruce Lipton, Andrew Harvey, Joanna Macy, and Lynne McTaggart.

    The featured books have thus far been released around June of each year, but the actual distribution date may vary. You will receive every book that is released during the period in which you are a Shift in Action Partner in good standing. You can receive the current yearly book as a thank-you gift by taking advantage of the promotion advertised on the homepage of ShiftInAction.com.

  10. Can I opt out of receiving the premiums?

    Yes; you can opt to receive only Shift magazine, or to receive no premium benefits at all. To change your option, contact Member Services at 877-769-4667 or membership@noetic.org.

  11. I just joined or renewed my Basic membership. Can I switch to Shift in Action?

    Yes! We welcome anyone who wants to upgrade at any time, and we will credit your remaining Basic membership dues towards your new Shift in Action membership. Just contact Member Services at 877-769-4667 or membership@noetic.org.

  12. How do I cancel my membership?

    Shift in Action partners may cancel at any time by emailing membership@noetic.org or phoning 877-769-4667.


Technical Questions

  1. What if I have a dial-up connection?

    Audio, video, and animation require a relatively large amount of bandwidth to transmit on the internet. We are aware that the long wait-times required to access these types of media can be frustrating for dial-up users.

    Some dial-up users download their desired files overnight, when local network activity is lower and the wait is not as noticeable. Additionally, DSL or cable modem service is now available in many areas, and often for prices competitive with dial-up service. SBC/Yahoo! DSL, for example, offers packages beginning at $14.95 a month.

    If you find that accessing the web media is impossible for you, please note there are still many things that you can do on ShiftInAction.com: publish your own local events, make declarations, browse shares, and read articles including back-issues of Shift magazine and Noetic Sciences Review. And, of course, you will still receive all of the program's other benefits, such as access to weekly live teleseminars, quarterly CDs, and yearly book. Plus, the money you donate supports frontier research.

  2. What if I don’t have internet access?

    In this case you will receive the offline benefits of the Shift in Action program: quarterly issues of Shift magazine, the quarterly Shift in Action CDs, and the yearly book.

    Please note that we send out the access codes to the weekly teleseminars by email only. If you do not have internet access but would like to attend a teleseminar, you may obtain the access code for the next teleseminar by calling Member Services at 877-769-4667 a day or two before the teleseminar occurs.

  3. How much do the teleseminars cost?
    Do I have to pay for the teleseminars myself?

    Your phone will be charged for a regular long-distance call to the dial-in number 641-594-7500, which is a conference bridge located in Iowa, USA. There is no additional transaction with IONS required in order to attend a teleseminar.

    There are many discount long-distance carriers that can make it cost-effective to attend a teleseminar. (Onesuite.com, for example, offers service to anywhere in the continental 48 states for about $0.10 per minute, or $6.00 for a one-hour call.) Also, many cell-phone companies offer packages with free long-distance.

    It is also possible to connect to the teleseminars via voice-over IP (internet telephony), and we have provided some general information here.

  4. I responded to the Shift in Action promotional offer but couldn't log in to the website.

    Please see Membership Question #1, above.

    If you have activated your account but still can't log in, it is likely that you are experiencing one of the login problems covered below.

  5. When I tried to enter my Activation Code the system told me that I had entered an "invalid ID."

    Please make sure that you are pointing your web browser to http://www.shiftinaction.com/invite, and that you are entering your Activation Code exactly as it was provided, including the two hyphens.

    You may verify your Activation Code by calling Member Services at 877-769-4667 or emailing support@shiftinaction.com

  6. The email address that you have for me is incorrect. Do I need a new activation code?

    No; the Activation Code given to you will still work, as it is unique to your membership (rather than unique to your email address). You may activate your account at any time by pointing your web browser to http://www.shiftinaction.com/invite and entering your Activation Code in the box. You may then change your email address in the system by navigating to my account > edit > account settings.

  7. The system won't accept my User Name and Password.
    The system won't accept my email address.

    It is likely that you are attempting to log in without having first activated your account, in which case please see the question above.

    Please note that your User Name is not your email address, unless you specifically changed it to be so in your account settings. We set up your account with a default User Name that consists of your first name and last name separated by a space.

    If the system has given you an error message with the syntax "The e-mail address [your email address] is already taken," this is because there is another account on the site keyed to that email address. Each account must be keyed to a unique email address. If you believe that there has been an error in setting up your account, please email tech support at support@shiftinaction.com.

    If you have activated your account and are experiencing any other kind of login problem, please email support@shiftinaction.com to have your User Name and Password re-set.

  8. I have activated my account, but my user name and password are no longer working.

    The easiest way to reset your user name and password is to go through the account activation process again. Just point your web browser to http://www.shiftinaction.com/invite, enter your activation code, and click the Submit button. This will gain you access to your account settings, where you can change your user name and password.

  9. What’s happening with the Noetic Café?

    Since its inception in 1998, the Noetic Café has provided an online forum for institute members and the general public to communicate with each other. However, the Noetic Café forum utilized an older technology, which began to malfunction. We have thus closed the Forum as of September 12, 2007. All IONS members are encouraged to continue discussions and blogging at IONS' membership and community site, www.shiftinaction.com.

  10. The system gave me an error message or is behaving strangely.

    Thank you for catching a bug for us! Please send an email to support@shiftinaction.com describing the bug, and the circumstances which led to its appearance, in as much detail as possible. If you know how to take a screen shot, please take a screen shot of the bug and attach it to the email.

  11. I have not received my Activation Code. How do I get it?
    I lost my activation code. Where can I get another one?

    Please call IONS Member Services at 877-769-4667 or email Shift in Action tech support at support@shiftinaction.com. Note that your Activation Code is unique to your IONS membership, and does not change if you change your contact information, or if a long time elapses between when you sign up for Shift in Action and when you activate your account.

  12. The font size on this site is too small. Can I enlarge it?

    Yes, you can! From the menu bar in your browser simply go to:
    View > Text Size
    and choose a setting that better suits your preferences.

  13. How do I download and listen to audios?

  14. How do I add a photo to my Personal Profile?

    In your admin menu at the lower left, click on my account. Then, in the content pane, click on the edit tab. Scroll down to the Picture box, and click the Browse button, bringing up the "Choose file" window. Browse your hard drive for the photo image you want to upload, select it, and click the Open button. This inserts the path and filename of your photo in your profile. Finally, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button to upload the photo to your profile.
