Luminary: Dafina Kuficha
Dafina Kuficha, L.Ac. is a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), specializing in physical and spiritual healthcare. She has been a licensed acupuncturist in the state of California for almost 14 years, after she received her master’s degree in TCM from Emperor’s College in Santa Monica, California. Acupuncture, acupressure, cranial sacral therapy, various types of massage therapy and intuitive and spiritual counseling are just some of the healing modalities that Dafina utilizes in her practice. She also prescribes herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, breathing, physical and visual exercises and encourages lifestyle changes where applicable. Honoring seven generations of midwives in her family, Dafina also assists in birthing babies as a birth assistant (doula) and is a midwife to those in life transition. Dafina is an “auntie” to children and young adults around the country, providing counsel on around many concerns. Her mottos are, “We’re all in this together,” and, “Every body is important.” She believes that, “one of the main causes of physical disharmony is spiritual irregularity.”
In the Los Angeles and East Bay areas, Dafina has been a featured guest on television and radio. You can hear some of her health tips on her monthly radio segment, “Treasured Health Gems,” on KPFA, 94.1FM (www.kpfa.org). She continues to be a keynote speaker and presenter at health conferences, presenting workshops, seminars and lectures on a variety of health subjects for children and adults.
Dafina is a contributor to the beautifully produced Sistah Midwife International (SMI), Black Midwives and Prenatal Providers’ Directory, 2007: Essential Recipes and Words Of Wisdom for Expecting and New Parents. She is also a BABUF Health Conductor, #134, (www.babuf.org), bringing health awareness to the bay area.
Recently, Dafina created the Center For Global Silence as a response to the ceaseless noise that has resulted in ceaseless disharmony in global environments, from our streets, to our homes, to our minds. The Center’s mission and Dafina’s is to bring a global understanding of the healing power of Silence to the world, particularly as a tool for resolution of personal and global conflict. Three days are designated annually for global Silence.
