Luminary: Sam Keen

Sam Keen
Sam Keen is a renowned pioneer in the personal mythology movement. He holds graduate degrees from the Harvard Divinity School and Princeton University, but prefers to be known as a natural philosopher. While an editor at Psychology Today for 20 years, he brought thinkers such as Joseph Campbell to national attention. He is the author of several best-selling books, including Fire in the Belly: On Being a Man; Learning to Fly: Reflections on Fear, Trust, and the Joy of Letting Go; and To Love and Be Loved. By his own admission, he is a "seriously addicted, chronologically challenged," frequent trapeze flyer. He teaches courses on trapeze flying with Peter Gold, who was the "catcher" for five trapeze acts, has toured in eight circuses, including Ringling Brothers, and has taught in a circus school in France and with Club Med. David Katzenstein, an experienced flyer, also works with Keen.
