Luminary: Vlad Cardema
Vlad Cardema is the son of an unusual union between a Filipino Diplomat and an Israeli woman of Bulgarian ancestry. His dad was assigned to Israel in the 60's, and that is where he met and married his wife. No rabbis would marry them because his dad was not Jewish, so they went to Cyprus and got married. In 1973 when Vlad was four, right before the Yom Kippur war, his dad was recalled to the Philippines. As a result, Vlad lived in the Philippines from the age of 4 to 10, where he learned to speak fluent Tagalog and experienced the life of hardship and poverty. Then in 1979 his dad was assigned to Burma, where he became the Consul General of the Philippine embassy in Burma. Vlad and his family then lived like kings. He studied at the International School in Rangoon and had friends from all over the world. At the end of his 3 year term as Consul General of the Philippines Embassy in Bangkok Thailand, his dad accepted a post in Israel.
At the airport the immigration officer said that Vlad was not a Filipino citizen (as stated on his Filipino Diplomatic passport) and therefore his diplomatic immunity was not valid. He had three options: Join the Army, Go to the Army Jail, or be instantly deported to the last country he came from. He opted to serve in the IDF, the Israeli Defense Force. After his experience in the army he was allowed to leave the country.
He came to America and currently lives near San Francisco where he practices Vibrational Sound Healing techniques.
