In recent years, Dr. Bourne has become aware of the critical importance of a shift in humanity's collective consciousness, values, and worldview. Such a shift is needed if humanity is to prevail in the light of environmental, social and economic forces moving the planet toward increasing chaos. His book Global Shift (Noetic Books/New Harbinger) and web site represent one contribution to a growing, worldwide movement of concerned individuals who care about the fate of the Earth and humanity in the 21st century.

IONS President Marilyn Mandala Schlitz tells us about her journey. She shares a bit of her personal history and how she became aware of consciousness research. Her fifteen year history at the Institute of Noetic Sciences has been filled with ground-breaking studies which have helped bring consciousness research into mainstream awareness. The Living Deeply program, which explored the commonalities in transformational experiences across a broad spectrum of spiritual and personal practices led the way to the Worldview Literacy project. Marilyn describes the organic way this evolving project unfolded. The intention of the Worldview Literacy project is to provide curriculum for K-8 students internationally. As IONS shifts and changes, Marilyn tells us how educational programs will emerge.

IONS has a long history of visionary leaders who speak potent truths, beginning with our founder Edgar Mitchell. Prominent among these leaders is Willis Harman, who was President for more than twenty years, from 1975 to 1996. It feels appropriate to return to his deep wisdom today and take the long view on history that he offers. This quarterly premium, which we have entitled “The Paradigm Shift,” offers you some of the most inspired passages from a program Willis recorded in 1988.
