Author, editor, publisher and political activist Byron Belitsos talks with host Matthew Gilbert about Democratic World Federalists. Byron provides a brief history of the proponents of an elected global governance system, including Albert Einstein. He and Matthew discuss the differences between the World Trade Organization, which is primarily run by large corporate elites, and a potential global body of elected representatives with legislative authority, Democratic World Federalists. Byron sees these two groups as potentially becoming two major parties in a global governance system similar to Republicans and Democrats. He describes many possible routes to creating a world government, some preferable to others. One example could be a gradual process of establishing elected advisory positions within the United Nations. The makes a clear case that global governance is an opportunity to embody our highest principles in global law that promotes the evolution of the whole.
