Erik Davis teleseminar on "The Visionary State"
Join one of our most provocative and insightful cultural critics, Erik Davis for a one-hour exploration with Stephen Dinan of "The Visionary State." Erik’s newest book explores California’s role in the evolution of new models of spirituality and societal living. California has long acted as a Petri dish of experimentation, marrying new technologies, media, and an experimental ethos to keep expanding the frontier of our consciousness.
Erik’s role as reporter, writer, and cultural observer affords him a unique angle in understanding how movements from the hippies to Burning Man have arisen and what their implications are for the larger world. He is equally at home exploring the profound aspects of this emergence, as well as the the parts that are misguided or downright silly. If you’re curious about the kind of changes that are on the horizon of the next decade, tune in for this teleseminar as Erik shares about what is emerging at the next frontier.
Erik has contributed articles and essays to a variety of publications, including Bookforum, ArtForum, Salon, Blender, the LA Weekly, and the Village Voice. For many years he was a contributing writer at Wired, and he is now the editor-at-large for Evolver magazine. He also wrote Led Zeppelin IV and TechGnosis: Myth, Magic, and Mysticism in the Age of Information, the latter a cult classic of visionary media studies that has been translated into five languages.
