John Petersen

Author, futurist and Founder of The Arlington Institute John L. Petersen shares his insights with host Matthew Gilbert about the period of extraordinary change we are entering. In his book he has identified 85 different wild card events that could change life as we know it today.

He has determined that some changes could happen as early as August 2009. As we face a dramatic shift in the world he urges us to be part of the evolutionary process and release past expectations of what we understand as our work, the way we obtain food and recognize the need for cooperation within our local communities.

I found this talk relevant and engaging. I agree that not much of the old cultural structure can be or is worth saving, particularly financial and governmental structures.

I endorse the speaker's emphasis on local community resource building.

Screw the Empire, cultivate the Force.

Last week, Paul Krugman, the Nobel laureate, wrote an article about how the current inflation fear mongering could be politically motivated. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/29/opinion/29krugman.html?_r=1
I kept thinking about this as I listened to this speaker, wondering just what his agenda was. Change is happening, people in government and elsewhere are planning for it. Might not this be the foundation for a truly new way of doing things? Why did he not speak of this?
The end of the old way of doing things does not mean the end of everything and chaos, though it may threaten vested interests who have more to lose.
Perhaps we should all focus some intention now on an intact and better managed and regulated AIG, and solid pensions for all the retirees and Baby Boomers, and see where we are in 45 days.

Hi Cindy, I read the Krugman article which is more complicated and I listened to John Petersen again.

Change that is happening in the moment is hard to talk about. So we need to talk about history. Then future plans, desires, and possibilities.

The question I have is where is America getting all the money from if it isn't printing it?
Then Petersen talks about the emergence of the new human, which was the theme of his presentation.
I didn't get that there was anything at AIG worth saving.
