 Historical Perspectives

This video series is from a discussion between IONS Vice President, Dr. Marilyn Schlitz and IONS research scientist, Dr. Cassandra Vieten. In this first segment they explore historic examples of how world views have been formulated. The human perception of the world has been influenced by assumptions and perspectives of the time: in the mid 1400’s in Portugal the King commissioned a monk, Fra Mauro, to create a definitive map of reality; the Christian story of Noah and the flood was assumed to be the truth and influenced explorers interpretation of glacial formations before a glacier theory had been understood; and anthropologists in the 1950’s interpret drawings based on their current reality.
