5 Day Program | Etc/GMT+8 | Organized by

As stories from the indigenous world suggest, the consciousness of early humans was not separated from the matrix of life, especially not separated from the organism Earth and all its inhabitants. Animals talked, rocks talked, trees and rivers and wind and mountains‹all spoke, not only to (and about) humans, but among, and about, themselves. The separation of the "civilized" human from "nature" has been primarily a diminishment of perception, a culturally-determined reduction of consciousness. But an experiential re-discovery of what James Hillman calls a "psyche the size of Earth" is possible, and perhaps necessary. Like meditation, exploring the terrain beyond the individual psyche and the collective human unconscious toward the anima mundi, or greater ecological intelligence, takes practice. In companionship with the Grand Tetons and the Snake River, in the habitat of eagles, bears, elk, moose and other wild souls, on the land where the "Wilderness Act" was conceived, we will use ceremony, solo time, perception-enhancement practice, contemplative and imaginal techniques to approach the conscious, communicative more-than-human world. A brief application is required.
