Jupiter's Transit into Sagittarius (TROPICAL Zodiac) Celebrated in Tamil Nadu
There is an ongoing schism between the Tropical and Sidereal Zodiac systems. "Vedic" Astrologers use the Sidereal. Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet suggests that the original Vedic Wisdom honored the Tropical Zodiac (typically adhered to by "Western" astrologers) by which 0 Aries is always timed with the Spring Equinox (0 Cancer with the Summer Solstice, 0 Libra with the Fall Equinox and 0 Capricorn with the Winter Solstice). This is of course a controversial issue, because the celebrations of transits, births and events according to the Tropical and Sidereal Zodiac currently diverge by about 23 degrees. This gap will widen with the movement of the Precession of the Equinoxes. For instance the Sun's passage into 0 Aries (etc) is currently celebrated 23 days after the Spring Equinox.
On 24 November 2006, several temples in Tamil Nadu, Southern India, celebrated Jupiter's transit into Sagittarius according to the Tropical Zodiac. These temple celebrations mark a trend towards re-establishing the Vedic Knowledge content of the Tropical Zodiac, and re-aligning the astrological celebrations of India with the Tropical Zodiac (the Earth's journey marked by the four corners of the Solstices and the Equinoxes.
