The Secret

I especially appreciated the conversation about Intension between Sheldrake and Radin. With the book and now the movie, THE SECRET, attracting a large audience the art of attraction is on the minds of many people. I found the treatment of intension and attraction to be very shallow in the film called THE SECRET.

Radin proposed thoughts about unknown consequences. When we ask for things we don't know the consequences. Sheldrake says his spirital practice is prayer and he concentrates on gratitude.

I'm reminded of the woman who won a trip to Florida a few years back. First prize! Sounded wonderful to her friends. That same woman was on the Value Jet which crashed into the Everglades. When we ask for things,we do not as Radin reminds us know the path of the 'thing'. When we ask for qualities of spirit as Sheldrake does when he asks for gratidude, we go both higher and deeper.

So the old adage, 'Be careful what you ask for' is once again there for us to contemplate.

I read The Secret last year and was truly inspired by it. I worked at using it's philosophies and truly, things began to change. I was offered a part time job out of the blue, right when I needed it as my current work hours had been cut drastically. I reconnected with a couple of dear old friends, which probably saved my life and sanity after my mom died suddenly. I don't see this as a way to solve lifes problems, but I do credit it with opening my eyes to how thoughts can control you, how lost one can get in negativity. This has lead to a desire for a more meaningful, peaceful life. So even if it only opens doors to finding answers to more questions, I'm ok with that. It's by no means an easy fix, it takes a lot of work, at least on my part it did.

Anyway, just wanted to put in my 2cents worth on it. I'm ejoying the journey on which the Secret seems to have sent me.

When I first saw the DVD. I thought wow this is the answer to all my problems etc. Then I took a step back and examined it more carefully. I did not like the fact that the DVD implied that God is some Genie in the Sky who will grant your every wish. I do however, believe in setting realistic attainable goals for yourself. I often make lists of short term or long term goals. I check them off as each goal is completed. Mostly, hard work to complete these goals is needed. Luck is Luck. Sometimes Good and Sometimes Bad. No Genie, just prayers to God, mostly that things will work out ok.

Some say that "We already did" ... which is what got us here on this earthly plane in the first place. :-)

Highlights from the IONS 2007 International Conference

Susan Burns | 08.14.07 | 06:31 AM

As we come to the close of the IONS conference, Consciousness in Action, Aug 8-13, 2007, it is a good time to share that participants from around the world were witness to the swelling of a great ocean of conscious change. These short summaries of the plenary sessions listed below were what I took away from the Conference and shared with my IONS Community. They give a glimpse into the flood of knowledge that immersed us, not to mention the breakouts which swept us up in a wave. Many of us are beaming with gratitude for the blessing of IONS work in the world. We give great thanks for sharing it with us in such an intentional way that we all felt like a community aware of a great work we are participating in together. We were able to glimpse into the profound potential of this uncommon work becoming for the common good.
