Cosmic Cycles, Astrology, Oneness & Healthful Freedom
Thank you, Lori, for your energetic and interesting interpretation of what you see as "The Modern View of Astrology and the Devaluation of Ancient Wisdom." Back in the 60s I was one of those intrigued by ancient astrology and immersed myself in its study. One of the first things I discovered was at one time astrologers believed in a ten house Zodiac. Later, a twelve house Zodiac, and most recently, a fourteen house Zodiac (the newly discovered thirteenth and fourteenth houses being Ophicus the serpent handler and Cetus the whale). Under the twelve house Zodiac I was typed a Scorpio and under the fourteenth a Libra. I found that change significantly bolixed up my identification, creating brain cramps galore. Which was I, Scorpio or Libra? There was no objective criterion for clearly making the distinction.
Then, synchronicitly, I came upon a book by interdisciplinary cycle researcher Edward Dewey (1971) who presented a new (at that time) scientific view of astrology. Titled Cycles: The Mysterious Forces That Trigger Events, Dewey's book served to whet my taste for a more interdisciplinary science-based approach to astrology.
A few years later, Guy L. Playfair and Scott Hill (1978) published a volume based on international scientific data titled The Cycles of Heaven. They vividly linked humans and the cosmos in a powerful and intricate web of energy and life, asserting that humankind is not only a product of its will and technology, but also of distant worlds and forces, which, out of the darkness of space, bring humans hope and mysteries beyond our dreams -- and beyond our science.
More recently, I came across another science-based book titled Rhythms of Life by Russell C. Foster and Leon Kreitzman (2004). Their research describes what they knew at the time they began to write about "the biological clocks that control the daily lives of every living thing."
Concurrent with my study of astrology, I was studying the work of psychosynthesist Roberto Assagioli (1965). His main principles state (my adaptation):
1) Any feeling, thought, image, cycle, action or possession one identifies with psychospiritually, dominates and manages her or him.
For example, when I identified with Scorpio the characteristics thought to correspond with that sun sign dominated and managed my feelings, thoughts, imagery and actions to the exclusion of all the other sun signs. That was also true when I identified with the Libra sun sign so I found it to my benefit to identify with the freest, most healthful and creative state of consciousness I could think of which turned out to be our transtemporal, ageless, omnipresent but mysterious Source of all.
2) One can liberate her or himself from such domination by disidentifying with feelings, thoughts, images, cycles, actions, and possessions.
For example, I was able to liberate myself from sole identification with Scorpio and Libra by disidentifying with them. My disidentification affirmation reads like this: I am a microcosmic timeless aware constituent of the transtemporal Macrocosmic Source of all consciousness. I am not anything temporal including all signs of the Zodiac.
3) Through that process of liberation one can transcend, include, own, and in cooperation with the Source of all feelings, thoughts, images, cycles, actions, and possessions, learn to cocreate consciously intended healthful responses to the widest, highest, and deepest range of influences, events and situations.
For example: As the freest possible timeless microcosm within the cosmic transtemporal Macrocosm I am free to transcend, own, and in cooperation with the Source of all, co-creatively manage my selection and use of all the feelings, thoughts, images, and actions available to all the signs of the Zodiac (I am no longer limited to just one).
4) The 'final' step in this systems approach to cocreative self-management is to be receptive to feedback from one's body, dreams, other entities, ecosystem, and cosmic cycles, as well as our transtemporal Source of all those.
For example: I am open to information on how well I am doing in realizing the above-stated intention by 'listening' to feedback from my body, my dreams, other entities, ecosystem and cosmic cycles, as well as our transtemporal Source of all.
So, the result of all this was, and still is, that through identifying my true self as a timeless aware microcosm of the Macrocosmic Source of all, and disidentifying myself with all temporal feelings, thoughts, images, cycles, actions, and possessions, while at the same time including all them in my repertoire of cocreative options, I have experienced the most profound sense of seamless oneness with our transtemporal Source and freedom from domination with all temporal affairs. Yet, I enjoy the freest range of healthful options available to us humans.
Put another way, with this system of what I have come to call Integral Natural Science I am no longer under the domination of anything temporal, be it my bio-body, sun sign, house of the zodiac itself, sun spot cycles, lunar cycle, or whatever, but am free to cocreatively respond to the influences of any or all signs as our Source of all and I see fit for my individual, social and ecosystemic health and well being.
Does it work? My healthy, creative, productive life since beginning eleven years ago to practice integral natural science principles and methods speaks for itself.
I am interested in reading about your feelings and thoughts, Lori. Thank you again for sharing yours with me.
Yours with empathy and trust in evidence-based integral natural science and our omnipresent transtemporal Source of all temporal feelings, thoughts, images, cycles, actions, and possessions.
Bob
