"Gravity,"goes the slogan on posters and bumpers stickers. "It isn't just a good idea. It's the law." And what a law. Unlike, say, traffic or drug laws, you don't have a choice, observes New York Times writer Dennis Overbye, about obeying gravity or any other law of physics. Jump and you will come back down. Faith or good intentions have nothing to do with it. But, say other scientists, there may be another alternative: the random higgledy-piggledy process may somehow turn out to be true. Consequently, the dichotomy between forever true and evolving emergent might turn out to be as false eventually as the dichotomy between waves and particles as a description of light. Bob ... once again I apologize for my silence on many of your recent posts. I do scan ... and occasionally dive deep within, between and under the lines you write. Your reference to your earlier post however gave me pause to think.

You wrote "Inspired by the work of pioneering psychologist Carl Jung, Taylor believes that our dreams can not only "connect us to our authentic selves", but also foster healing in society. He estimates that he has helped people work with more than a hundred thousand dreams."

Yes ... and he was a very innovative thinker. You may have possibly read my post on his (and others) beliefs on the living nature of "belief systems" aka archetypes. However ... and I say that with some caution and considerable thought ... for me ... I think something is not true to the line "connect us to our authentic selves."

Sure it could be my "Ego" that is not liking that notion and is currently having a micro emotional meltdown ... however I think it is something more ethereally eternal than that.

The notion imply we are broke ... not whole ... and not with (communing) with our "REAL" and better selves. Hmmm. Lets take the opposite notion, view, arch typical belief and thus opposite perspective for a moment:

We are precisely where and who we are supposed to be at this particular moment in time-space-state of being. The little curly, read headed, slightly freckled cheeked kindergarten girl with her party dress and shoes on is attending here very first day in school. And the kindergarden teacher tells tthe class one of two things:

Option #1)
Kids you are all broken ... stupid ... innocently lost ... and sinners and My Role Is To Fix You. Isn't that going to be fun?

Option #2)
"Children we are all here to learn how to finger paint the boquet of flowers I brought today and the delicate rainbows that feed them.

Then we are all going to share with the class ... how all of our flowers are beautifully different ... and then we get to take them home to give to our mothers. Isn't that going to be nice?"

Well ... we all readily know which kindergarten we would like our grand children to attend ... and ... we all know which one we attended.

And then when we graduate and move on to first grade ... we see we have always have been one with ourselves ... its just that we move on to paint different pictures in the hearts, minds, and souls of those that have loved us ... and perhaps ... those that unfortunately attended the old kindergarten school.

Anyone else go to Catholic school? :-)

larry musing on Jung.

Hi Larry ~

I assume your comments above were meant to be in response to my post titled "I Had The Weirdest Dream Last Night http://www.shiftinaction.com/node/6607 not this one on the "Laws of Nature, Source Unknown. I am responding accordingly below:

Although it's always interesting to read your responses to my posts, no need to apologize for I realize one cannot respond to every post . . . at least I can't.

As to your comments about Taylor, Jung, dreams, genuine self, Catholic school, etc. while formerly an adjunct professor in a Jesuit college, I am not or have I ever been Catholic. With that disclaimer (of sorts), I hold no brief for Taylor's interpretation of Jung. This is just an interesting article my Community Group discussed at a recent meeting. As in all our discussion we explore both the pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses of the ideas presented.

My personal view is that each of us is doing the best she or he can with the consciousness, DNA, and other available resources at hand. Recognizing that, some folks decide they want to explore finding their transtemporal soul (self) which, to me, is the self which I originally and genuinely am. It is the me who is writing to you through this body at this moment, i.e. it is the me who temporarily inhabits and functions through this bio-body named Bob Johnston, i.e. the 'not genuine' me (lotsa i.e.s, huh).

Thus, to me it is not necessarily a matter of anything being broken, but rather a matter of maturation of soul consciousness. The less the maturity the more the tendency to view oneself as her or his bio-body. The more the maturity in conscious awareness the more the tendency to identify oneself as one's transtemporal soul and to disidentify with one's temporal bod as well as everything else temporary, such as beliefs, values, intentions, attitudes, processes, and possessions, i.e. the 'not me'. That way I can consciously co-creatively manage the temporary not me things rather than allow them to manage the true genuine me.

That doesn't mean that I love my body any less for I try to listen to it and manage it in a way that keeps it in a state of optimum health and well being until it dies from just wearing out (hopefully quickly when it does). I suppose that's kinda like Woody Allen saying he's not afraid of dying, he just doesn't want to be there when it happens :-)

What are your feelings and thoughts?

Warmly,

Bob
