Natural Burial - the GREEN alternative
- Have you prepared for your future?
- Are you concerned about the impact of your decision?
- Do you have all the information needed to make an informed choice?
Every year the cemetery industry buries over 827,000 gallons of embalming fluid, 104,000 tons of steel, 2,700 tons of copper and bronze, 1.6 million tons of concrete, and 30-plus million board feet of hardwoods. Even cremation pollutes the atmosphere with toxins such as mercury and carbon monoxide. You could drive 4,800 miles on the energy used for a single cremation (or go to the moon and back 83 times on the energy used from all cremations during one year in the United States).
Natural “green” burial is a 100% biodegradable process designed to have minimal environmental impact, typically with a body that has not been embalmed, placed only in a biodegradable casket, bag, or shroud, and buried in the ground without expensive concrete vaults, fancy metal caskets, or intrusive markers.
