We are off and running in 2010. The Institute of Noetic Sciences is embracing the new decade with enthusiasm and a commitment to engage our global community in our research, educational programs and community outreach and engagement programs. In the coming year, we will launch a new interactive website, embark on a global outreach program and world tour, create an online store, offer a set of distance learning educational programs and continuing to deepen our cutting edge research.

Our goal in the blog is to address some of the most frequently asked questions about IONS and the field of noetic sciences. One important question we hear is, "I was wondering if you offered degrees at IONS and/or do you have any recommendations for getting into the field of noetic sciences?"

To speak to the growing need and interest in Noetic Sciences, IONS will be offering a number of innovative educational programs. These include: life long learning, continuing education for health and healing practitioners and a K-12 curriculum on worldview literacy. This summer we are offering a train the trainers program for people who want to learn to teach worldview literacy. We are also excited to be starting a year-long blended learning program on the noetic sciences, which we will keep you updated on. We are also in the process of building some strategic partnerships to expand our educational programs and outreach to the world...more on this in coming months.

As people strive to move more deeply into the field of noetic sciences as a profession, we encourage you to earn an advanced degree in a traditional area that interests you, anything from psychology to physics, to anthropology, work towards a traditional career in those areas, do exceptional work and gain high credibility in your career, and then study or conduct noetic research on the side. Attend appropriate conventions, meet the leaders in the field, publish papers, and become known to leaders at the few institutes around the world that are conducting research in these areas to become a viable candidate when one the (very) few job opportunities arise now and then. This is how virtually all of the people working in the field today have obtained their positions, and this state of affairs is not likely to change any time soon.

We wish you the very best in your personal growth and career development. We look forward to engaging with you as the field of noetic sciences and the work of IONS continues to unfold.

I expect that I agree with this approach, with at least one critical caveat: learn to keep critical thinking in its place by taking a de Bono Thinking course and a Mind Mapping course. Otherwise traditional Cartesian Thinking sets the mind in blocks of basalt: granite not being hard enough.

You have set excellent goals for us to aim for, Marilyn. In science we learn to start from a known point: repeating previous work to the point of getting the same results before extending research into the unknown future. We want to do that without crippling our abilities to leapfrog into the future, don't we ?

There is a consciouness that extends at least as far as our universe that I became aware of when a friend told me about new chemicals not knowing their own chrystaline structure; melting points or boiling points for some time after first being synthesised on this planet. After some time they would self organise, or something, and become part of the family: with all the proper characteristics.

If that took place in Scotland, the next synthesis done anywhere, Eg. New Zealand, would find the product able to manage its own melting and boiling points; chrystaline structure and so on immediately. They would be identical to what had transpired at the original site.

I doubt this consciousness extends to Google ? If I try to search for these concepts, without knowing any technical term that has been assigned to it: 'No Results Found for this ignorant search'.

Mind Mapping can be different. If the map is developed over a period of three weeks or more, for ever if it turns out to be a useful map: universal consciousness kicks in and guides the development of it. If any of you have experiences like this it would be a useful concept to share.

You will not find that observation in any Mind Map course that I know of. Perhaps the Asians and Africans have caught on, though; they have been quick to catch on to everything else.

Hi Marilyn,

this sounds good for me. I'm very curious and I hope this will help us in our daily life to bring the shift into action.

Why not create your own standards?
for example IONS Practitioner, Master and Trainer etc. a training with all the basics and the new insights from a interdisciplinary world view. Provide all the tools for like-minded people to work for a change at all levels in the human society. Spread the word also outside US and build sections of the institute in South America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Morsel:

The Master once asked his disciples which was more important: wisdom or action.

The disciples were unanimous: "Action, of course. Of what use is wisdom that does not show itself in action?"

Said the Master, "And of what use is action that proceeds from an unenlightened heart?"

1-I would like to see the live teleseminars start again to ask questions of the speakers.
2-I want the second teleseminar per week to restart. The old one was tuesdays at noon.
3-I would like to see a teleseminar time for members to present their info.
4-I would like to see things like the IONS annual meeting/conference be made available on the internet for members who can't afford to go.

Hi Filip,
The teleseminars will resume in March!! We're working on a great line-up of live guests available for Q&A with the listeners.
We are scheduling 3 live teleseminars per month and the fourth Wednesday of the month will be for the members! We'll discuss how the members want to use this time - possibly to present their info, in a virtual community group style - or it has been brought up that there is interest in a book club.
It would be great if we could do the second weekly teleseminar series again, but at this time we don't have the staff to support it. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of time to seek out, schedule and follow-up with potential guests!
And we have discussed the possibility of making some of next year's conference available on the internet but no promises on that one at this time.
Thanks for your continued support in the educational and research work we do here.
peace,
Angela

I am excited about the height, depth, and breadth of your vision for IONS, Marilyn. Bon voyage! Bob
