We are off and running in 2010. The Institute of Noetic Sciences is embracing the new decade with enthusiasm and a commitment to engage our global community in our research, educational programs and community outreach and engagement programs. In the coming year, we will launch a new interactive website, embark on a global outreach program and world tour, create an online store, offer a set of distance learning educational programs and continuing to deepen our cutting edge research.

When a caterpillar reaches a certain point in its own evolution, it becomes over-consumptive, a voracious eater and it eats everything in sight. At that same time, in the molecular structure of the caterpillar, the “imaginal cells” become active. While all this gorging is going on, those imaginal cells wake up, and they look for each other inside of the caterpillar’s body. When enough of them connect (they don't need to be in the majority) they become the genetic directors of the future of the caterpillar. At that point the other cells begin to putrefy and become what’s called the nutritive soup—out of which the imaginal cells create the absolute unpredictable miracle of the butterfly.

As a new blogger I was excited to read and comment on responses from the SIA Community on my first blog entry. I kept checking on the “Read More” button and scrolling down to engage in a lively conversation. First thing I noticed was no one was commenting at all; not even a “Interesting!” or “You’re full of it.”…nothing. Second thing I was surprised by was that my own looking counted as a “read” on the popularity meter. Out of the fifty or so reads at least a dozen were my own. I think the promotion of specific blogs should be determined by the number of unique comments from the community and not from anyone just clicking on the “read more” button. PLEASE make comments, even if you only have a second to type in a phrase at least it can begin the conversation…a prelude to Real Community.

The ACTUAL and REAL course of Sri Aurobindo's Yoga

'... all you need to do is to observe the ACTUAL and REAL course Sri Aurobindo’s yoga and work have taken.... You see, if you ignore this, then the stagnation in the Ashram and the chaos in Auroville and the split between those two bodies of their work would not make sense at all. But when you do see those ‘disasters’ on the background of this larger vision and fuller knowledge, then it is perfectly clear and ‘all is as it should be'. - Thea (1989)

New technologies for spotting Alzheimer's disease are reportedly poised to unravel its cause and speed progress toward effective treatments. Science writer Joel N. Shurkin discusses how early diagnosis may enable treatment before symptoms appear -- intervention that could halt the advance of the disease. In our IONS New Options Group last meeting we discussed the possibility of viable mind-body therapies for Alzheimer's as it pops up in the brain and hypotheses about what may happen to consciousness as the disease.progresses.

[Recently] while singing along to streaming radio, I began to think of how obvious disharmony and lack of rhythm is when considering music or dance. One either joins the song, with its particular measures, tones and rhythms or one is doing one’s own thing (out of whatever ignorance or lack of interest in finding some resonance with the song). When one adds one’s own contributions without regard for a song’s measure, tone, rhythm and progression, the result is typically unpleasant … a disjointed cacophony or chaos of sound or movement.

I will make this disclosure short and sweet and attempt to relate a very complex subject as succinctly as possible. I discovered the power of nitrogen deep under the Monterey bay. The ecstatic experiences below led me to the somewhat safer utilization of nitrous oxide in the comfort of my bed. As a rescue diver I was familiar with mixed gas and oxygen use and usually took advantage of the protection of pure oxygen during extended sessions. Over a period of two years of intensive use many esoteric mysteries were revealed.

Consciousness master

I have written on web sites about a well-known biofeedback dr. that I am working with. She is a consciousness master. I told her that I want to do what monks do with my mind, monks who have meditated for 20 years. With her guidance, I am now doing that. I raise the temperature of my hands 20 degrees during a session, I achieve a state of total bliss, and it lasts all nite, and thruout the next day, I send my consciousness into the biofeedback sound, and see a color expanding all around me.
